PPDAA South Sudan Concludes Benchmarking Visit to Malawi’s Public Procurement Authority Lilongwe, Malawi

The Public Procurement and Disposal of Assets Authority (PPDAA) of South Sudan has successfully concluded a three-day benchmarking visit to the Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Authority (PPDA) of Malawi, held from 11th to 13th August 2025 in Lilongwe.

The benchmarking mission aimed to strengthen South Sudan’s procurement reform agenda through peer learning and exchange of best practices with Malawi’s PPDA. The visit focused on four key thematic areas — supplier registration, compliance and monitoring, capacity development, and financial sustainability.

During the engagement, the South Sudan delegation learned from Malawi’s experience in implementing the Malawi National Electronic Procurement System (MANePS) — a digital platform that has transformed supplier registration, streamlined verification processes, enhanced transparency, and reduced opportunities for fraud.

Speaking during the closing session, Mr. Ajang Deng Daniel, Director for Performance Monitoring and Audit and Head of Delegation, commended PPDA Malawi for its remarkable progress and willingness to share knowledge.

“Malawi’s journey from manual systems to a digitized, trusted registry provides practical insights for South Sudan’s ongoing reform. We return home equipped with valuable lessons and a partner equally committed to Africa’s procurement renaissance,” said Mr. Ajang.

In his remarks, Dr. Edington Chilapondwa, Director General of PPDA Malawi, welcomed the South Sudanese delegation and expressed readiness to deepen cooperation between the two institutions. He reaffirmed Malawi PPDA’s commitment to supporting regional collaboration in the areas of digital transformation, supplier registration, and institutional capacity building.

Both authorities agreed to continue technical collaboration through staff exchanges, knowledge sharing, and joint capacity development initiatives aimed at promoting transparent and efficient public procurement systems.

This visit underscores PPDAA South Sudan’s dedication to advancing procurement reforms anchored on transparency, accountability, and digital transformation, and to fostering partnerships that strengthen Africa’s procurement landscape through shared experience and innovation.
