The Minister of Finance and Planning, Hon. Dr. Bak Barnaba Chol, today received the World Bank Country Manager for South Sudan, Mr. Charles Undeland, during a courtesy visit focused on strengthening collaboration in the implementation of public financial management reforms. The accompanying photo captures the Minister and the Country Manager during their discussion, reflecting the solid partnership supporting these reforms.
Mr. Undeland provided an update on the World Bank’s support to South Sudan and commended the Government’s commitment to advancing fiscal stability, institutional strengthening, and transparent management of public resources. He noted the importance of continued cooperation and co-financing to sustain reform momentum. The Minister reaffirmed the Government’s readiness to work closely with the World Bank and other partners to deepen reforms across key sectors.
As part of the wider reform agenda, the Public Procurement and Disposal of Assets Authority (PPDAA) continues to benefit from support under the PFMIS Project, Sub-component 2.3- Strengthening of Public Procurement. This assistance has enhanced the Authority’s operational capacity through provision of working tools, leased office space, and comprehensive training for PPDAA staff, Board members, Procurement Committees, and Procurement Officers across MDAs. The project is also supporting the development of procurement manuals, Standard Bidding Documents, and other tools that are improving consistency and professionalism in public procurement.
PPDAA remains committed to strengthening procurement governance nationwide and has resolved to work closely with all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to ensure full compliance with the upcoming 2025/26 budget once approved. This follow-up will help guarantee that procurement planning and execution align with approved allocations and that public funds are used transparently and efficiently.
The meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment between the Government and the World Bank to continue building strong institutions and advancing reforms that promote accountability, value for money, and better service delivery for the people of South Sudan.
